PA needed for young onset dementia – TEA CALLS 7 DAYS + WEEKENDS
We're looking for a friendly PA for our mum who suffers with young onset dementia. There is currently no personal care required - just someone who can assist with meal preparation each evening and offer support with small household tasks.
We currently need to find a PA, or a couple of PAs, to cover tea calls 7 days a week, as well as morning and tea calls on Saturdays and Sundays. Morning calls are 45mins and tea calls are 30mins.
The morning call is just mainly to provide mum with her medication and check she's ready for the day. Some light housework may be required, but we want to encourage mum to keep doing things for herself so gentle encouragement to do tasks such as laundry, emptying the dishwasher, making the bed etc. would be needed. This call is not time sensitive, and mum usually takes her medication around 10am.
The tea calls will be to assist mum to make dinner. She currently eats a lot of ready meals, and whilst this is okay every now and then, it would be better for her to have more nutritious foods. She's not fussy and will eat anything, but she's a little nervous about using the cooker etc. due to her condition. This call will be around 6pm.
You will be part of a friendly team of other PAs, with ongoing support from the family.
Mum is a lovely, easygoing lady in her early 60s with very early stages of young onset dementia. She enjoys the company of others, and having been a carer herself for over 30 years she is very sympathetic to the role a carer provides. Our main aim is to keep mum as independent as possible, but she needs some help with meal preparations and keeping herself organised. She adores animals and has two cats of her own. She has never been able to drive but enjoys a walk. She has no mobility issues.
