Personal Assistant – Ashby De La Zouch, Leicestershire

Rate: £13 per hour (£16 per hour if self-employed)

Hours: Variable but based on one long weekend (approximately 20 hours) every four weeks (10 hours Saturday, 10 Hours Sunday). Plus possibly some additional hours to be agreed in advance.

Contract: Part Time

The client is a very active, autistic young man (age 32 years). Your support could help him to enjoy his interests. His interests are based mainly around visiting steam train events across the UK and possibly in Europe? Mostly at weekends and occasional long weekends. Previous care experience is desired but not essential. Full clean driving licence (to drive in UK) is essential.

Role Requirements
You will be required to accompany the client and his parent on day trips at weekends for example to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Driving is a key part of this role and will be shared with the parent, therefore, you must have a full clean driving licence. You will be insured to drive the client’s parent’s car.
The client is physical very fit, able, strong and fast. He is intelligent. great at planning train timetables and has a great sense of direction. He is also good with technology such as mobile phones, the internet and Sat Navs. He is verbal but has communication difficulties with both receptive and expressive language.

The client is prone to losing patience and can become frustrated if they are not understood and on rare occasions can exhibit challenging behaviours. When out in the community, you will need to provide help as the client moves at speed and can change directions without warning.

Help will be needed to encourage and assist where required with personal care; making sure the client is wearing clean clothes and support with meals and drinks. The client uses the toilet frequently but does not require assistance other than when queuing for their turn. Sometimes he forgets to lock the door so you will need to stand outside. He requires support with managing food quantities.

Periodic breaks during shifts will be agreed with the parent. There may be occasional overnight stays in hotels, these will be agreed with you in advance. You will have your own room and meals will be provided

This opportunity is suited for someone who has a clean driving licence, is physically active so can keep pace with the client, is responsible, reliable, positive, patient, sociable and proactive, and who enjoys being out in the community.

The role is subject to interview, references and successful applicant will be required to complete and pass an Enhanced DBS check.
