PA required in Loughborough – Ref TS340311

Female PA required to support a lady with physical disabilities living in the Loughborough area.

Female live in PA required to work a pattern of 2 weeks on shift, 3 weeks off shift. 2 hours per day relief cover provided Sunday to Friday, 6 hours relief provided on Saturdays.

Duties:
• Support with personal care, dressing, toileting, preparing meals, domestic tasks, and laundry.
• Support client to stay safe in the home and accessing the community where required.
• Client has impaired speech so support will include assisting with telephone communication and communicating with agencies and other services.
• Support client to parent her 11-year-old child. Child is independent with personal care, but would require support with preparing meals, laundry,
organising clothes, assisting to dry and style hair ready for school (put in ponytail etc). Support with homework and essentially any task where manual dexterity is required.
• Support client to take her child to the park and her two small dogs on regular walks.
• Child does not require assistance with the school run because they walk themselves to school and an adult assists them over the main road home. On occasion, client will need the support of the carer to walk to the corner to supervise child crossing the main road if the usual adult is not available.

PA is required to have a clean full driving license with business insurance as they will use their vehicle to transport client. Mileage will be paid directly by the client.

Client interests: priorities are enjoying family life, spending time with her child and living as "normal" life as she possibly can. Enjoys going out to the park with her child and small dogs and going shopping on Saturdays. Enjoys seeing her mum who visits often and spending time with husband when he is not working. (works as long-distance driver so works late, works away and works weekends).

Relevant diagnosis: Brain injury resulting in mobility restriction, poor dexterity, balance issues and speech impairment. Client not able to be left alone due to panic, distress and anxiety. Visually impaired.

Communication: Client experiences difficulties with speech, including slurring and difficulties with muscle tone. She has a diagnosis of brain damage which caused her speech difficulties.
Client is a highly intelligent person and can express her views and wishes but needs more time and the assistance of a carer to support during telephone communication. Client does experience anxiety which can impact on her breathing rate which in turn can make it more difficult for her to relay the information. So, patience and understanding is required.

Moving and handling: Client has very poor balance but has strength in her legs. She can walk a few steps between rooms only. Her chair, bed and daytime toilet transfers are the assistance of one carer without equipment.

Client uses a wheel-about commode/shower chair to make things easier around for personal care and dressing, and a manual wheelchair is in place for outside the home.

Carers support client to remain steady when transferring to standing and walk beside her when she is walking a few steps between rooms.
Ideally you will have experience in handling and using equipment or be willing to have training in this area.

There are two small companion dogs, a Yorkie-Poo and one is Shi-poo. Both dogs are friendly but can be yappy when people come to the door. They do settle down and are snuggly and friendly.

This opportunity is suited for someone who is responsible, reliable, patient, and respectful of others’ privacy, dignity, values, and beliefs. You may be a good fit if you are looking to get back into work after caring for a relative or friend.
