An sociable individual requires support with enhancing their life.

Preferred days/times:
1.5 hours per day Monday-Friday, time to be arranged between the client and PA.

Tasks/duties:
To support the client with accessing nearby shops, community groups, and going for walks. Also, some support with preparing a light meal and completing light domestic duties.
To support with exercises provided by physiotherapy and speech therapy using a visual communication book/s, other means of communication, i.e., books, use of images, and general conversation.
A car is not required as these activities are within walking distance.
Client main diagnosis:
The client had a stroke in August 2023, which impacted their mobility, cognition, and speech. They are mobile indoors with occasional use of a walking stick and outdoors with a 4 wheeled walker. They are unsteady when rising from a seated position. They struggle to sequence some daily tasks and have expressive dysphasia.
The client has Hyperthyroidism, Diabetes (diet controlled), Ischaemic Heart disease, Atrial Fibrillation, Vertigo, High blood pressure, and Angina.
The client also has Polymyalgia which causes pain to the upper back, neck and head.
The client wears hearing aids and does at times struggle to hear even when wearing these.

Communication:
The client has expressive dysphasia; they struggle to form words though usually understand what is being said to them. With familiarity, communication, and understanding becomes easier.
The client’s first language is Gujurati, and they speak some English. They would like a PA who can speak both Gujarati and English. Speech can become muddled, and frustration can occur when unable to communicate.
Client has a communication book which can be utilised as a communication method. Client does know single words, but cannot always hold a full conversation, but is able to point out needs and label meaningful objects.
The client understands simple single instructions when it is specifically modified to their level of understanding; they will often say 'yes' to everything. Those new to working with the client will find it difficult to interpret their speech and may require support at first from those who know them well.

Client enjoys:
Going shopping, attending the temple, cooking, and accessing local social groups.

This opportunity is suited for someone who is responsible, reliable, patient, and who can speak Gujurati.

For employed PAs, benefits include: 5.6 weeks paid annual leave (pro rata) Pension, Tax and NI contributions.

An enhanced DBS certificate is applicable to this role, which is paid for by funding authority, (if you don’t already have a certificate).
