Young adult wanting to volunteer within the community: Loughborough

PA tasks: To support a young male adult to access the community, identify and access clients’ places of interest. To also identify and support with voluntary work.

PA will be required to use their own vehicle to drive client to places of interest, therefore own vehicle with full clean driving licence and business insurance required. Mileage will be paid by the client.

Client interests/hobbies:
Client is friendly and engaged once he gets to know you and enjoys having the support of a carer. He is an active person and enjoys a wide range of sporting activities such as swimming, running, walking, skiing, paddle boarding, kayaking, climbing, archery and tennis. He loves watching rugby, football, cricket and is a Leicester City season ticket holder. He also attends the gym and enjoys taking part in the local Park run weekly.
Other interest include playing bingo, bowling, Uno and monopoly and listening to live music and he enjoys attending a local disco.
Prior to Covid-19 client volunteered as a dog walker at a local kennels with support and also volunteered at the local British Heart foundation shop. He is interested in looking into work/volunteering opportunities again.
Clients’ relevant diagnosis:
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Dyspraxia
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
History of Strokes (Aged 4 and 7)
Depression and anxiety
Visual Impairment ( he cannot judge speed of traffic so would need support around road use when out and about)
Sensitive Hearing
Client has a sensory integration issue and has a phobia of crying children due to the noise and unpredictability around this, and so finds it difficult to be in areas where children are. Trips must be planned to take this into account and lower the risk of him being in the same area as children. Client is at risk of absconding when triggered.
Occasionally when over stimulated (loud areas, bright lights) client can become agitated, or he can become withdrawn so avoiding very busy areas or large crowds where there is not the distraction of live sport, live music or theme park rides to distract him is appropriate.
Communication: Client struggles to read facial expression, tone of voice or nuances of language as part of his ASD diagnosis but has made progress in developing relationships with friends. He has difficulty being part of a large group and responds better to 1:1 support or being in small groups. Client is verbal, has ability to read, write and is really able with technology.
